Mimbres Replica Bat Bowl
This is a fantastically painted polychrome bat bowl with a kill-hole shot through its center. The Mimbres culture circa 200 t0 1150 AD is famous for the wonderfully and intricately rendered fantasy creatures they painted within bowls. Most of these bowls were found with a kill-hole shot through the center. This was known as “killing” the bowl for the purpose of releasing its spirit. This vessel was hand built and painted with homemade brushes. It was wood fired in an earthen pit which rendered the rich fire clouds and wonderful patina that only these traditional techniques can achieve.
