This canteen is pure Anasazi design from the Tularosa era. The motifs are varied and appear at times incongruous. The large hatched designs represent textiles, probably mats or rugs. The adjacent L- shaped frames represent the loom or frame the item was made upon. Other motifs are indicative of clouds, lightning, and corn. What the coherent comprehensive meaning of these symbols suggests, can only be imagined.
